About the collection
The Urban Vibes collection is dedicated to those whose heart beats with the the pulse of the city. This collection vibrates with the fast pace of downtown, but also captures the city when it is eerily dormant. It reveals its hidden beauty in wet, dark streets, shimmering sidewalks, and reflecting window panes.
The artist’s duo Heldt Hupin (Christoph Heldt and Florence Hupin) traveled Europe and North America in the search of motifs. Their fusion of photography and screen print challenges our experiences of a particular place and time. JB Valiquette photographs industrial and municipal buildings at night, illuminated only by ambient light. These atmospheric portraits of the city are both haunting and beautiful. Jonas St.Michael was inspired by his 102 year-old grandfather and focuses on his early work as a Montreal architect and builder during the 1950’s. He was involved in the construction of affordable housing on what had been farmland following the second world war at a time when there was a housing shortage in the city. St.Michael’s images serve as a meditation on areas of the city that have since become suburbs.
